Holiday intensive courses will be run during the Summer School holidays in Westbury-On-Trym.
Learn to swim – 30 minutes per day for 5 days
Daily lessons teaching confidence and basic swimming skills. Learners will build their confidence throughout the week and hopefully feel they are able to take their first independent strokes.
Beginners/Stroke introduction – 30 minutes per day for 5 days
Instruction in basic strokes i.e Freestyle, Back stroke, Breaststroke, and basic Butterfly.
Stroke Improvement – 30 minutes per day for 5 days
Intensive instruction on the intricacies of a swimming stroke. Should a learner lack the skills in one particular stroke this class is for them. A variety of drills and activities will be included to assist the understanding of the skills needed to reconstruct the stroke. Associated activities will be included such as Push and glides, surface dives, touch turns etc.
Personal Survival – 30 minutes per day for 5 days
Learning different survival techniques throughout the week culminating in a survival scenario (endurance swim)
Starts and Turns – 30 minutes per day for 5 days
Touch turns for all four competitive strokes, tumble turns for Frontcrawl, backcrawl and Medley.
Competitive start including diving and wind up starts.
Junior Lifeguard Academy – 1 hour per day for 5 days
This is a very popular and exciting program of aquatic activities suitable for students aged 8 and over.
Activities include Pool sport – Swimming, rescuing and personal survival skills against the clock. How many casualties can you rescue in 1 minute using a throw rope?
Artistic swimming – the art of moving, changing direction, sculling, diving etc in a controlled way.
Water polo – dribbling, throwing and catching a ball while moving around the pool
Identifying and rescuing conscious and unconscious casualties from the water using a variety of methods.
Pool Sport – 30 minutes per day for 5 days
Stroke technique, streamlining, propulsion and power, starts and turns along with transitions, endurance sets leading to a long distance swim.

9am – (3pm) Starts and turns – including diving, touch turns and tumbles
9.30am – (3.30pm) Learn to swim
9.30am – (3.30pm) Stroke introduction for beginners
9.30am – (3.30pm) Stroke development for Improvers
9.30am – Starts and turns – including diving, touch turns and tumbles
10am – (4pm) Learn to swim
10am – (4pm) Stroke introduction for beginners
10am – (4pm) Junior Lifeguard Academy – 1 hour per day including Water Rescue, Personal Survival, Water Polo, Artistic Swimming, Pool sport
10.30am -(4.30pm) Personal Survival working towards a STA Dolphin 1 award
10.30am – (4.30pm) Pool sport aiming for a distance award at the end of the week.
